Diverse Abilities, Dorset’s disability charity, has been awarded ‘one’ special place for the Virgin London Marathon 2016 taking place on 24 April and is seeking applications. One lucky person will then be fortunate enough to run for the charity that supports children and adults with disabilities across the county.
The charity is urging those wishing to take part in the Virgin London Marathon next year to apply to them. This is an opportunity to have a guaranteed place in the London Marathon, all in aid of your local charity. Those applying do need to commit to raising the minimum sponsorship of £1,000.
If you missed this year’s ballot but want to run the London Marathon then this is your chance, or if you were unlucky in the oversubscribed ballot then you could still run, through Diverse Abilities’ special London Marathon place.
Sharon Wells, events fundraiser at Diverse Abilities, said: “We are very excited to have received a very special silver bond place at next year’s Virgin London Marathon. Be among a diverse range of runners at the UK’s biggest running event and run for us! We look forward to receiving many applications.”
Felicity Hooper, age 33 from Poole, ran in this year’s London Marathon for Diverse Abilities and said: “I was lucky enough to get a ballot place for the London Marathon this year and it was an amazing event, atmosphere and experience. I would definitely recommend it and urge people to take up this great opportunity by Diverse Abilities.
“I wanted to take part and raise money to support people locally, and Diverse Abilities were ideal. When I was struggling during the 26.2 miles I just remembered one of the adults I met at the charity’s day opportunity service who was trying to walk for the first time in a very long while, and it inspired me to keep going.”
By taking part in the Virgin London Marathon for Diverse Abilities you will have the experience of a lifetime; and Diverse Abilities will support you all the way through fundraising advice and support, information about how your money can help, fundraising pack, a charity vest and the knowledge you are helping the local Dorset disability community have a fulfilled life and great future.
Applications need to be submitted to Diverse Abilities by 15 October 2015 by emailing sharon.wells@diversebilities.org.uk, or downloading a form from www.diverseabilities.org.uk/events and posting to Sharon Wells, Events Fundraiser, Diverse Abilities, Unit C Acorn Business Park, Poole, Dorset BH12 4NZ.
