NEWS FEED
Organisers of the Great Dorset Steam Fair at Tarrant Hinton have reported a positive increase in advance ticket sales for the 2016 event, compared to the same period last year. This is following an announcement in November confirming changes to the show dates for 2016.
Now in its 48th year, the event is due to take place during the August bank holiday weekend of 25 to 29 August instead of the week after, which will allow more families to attend. It will also be held from Thursday to Monday, instead of Wednesday to Sunday.
Martin Oliver, Managing Director at the Great Dorset Steam Fair, said: “It is clear even at this early stage that the new dates are a big hit with families. There has been overwhelming support from our regular visitors, exhibitors, traders and contractors, which we are very grateful for. We have also been receiving very positive feedback on the new dates from parents who were unable to attend last year, due to children being back at school.
“This really is a fantastic family event and the positive increase in ticket sales so far this year tells us that our visitors agree. Now that we no longer clash with other major local events such as the Bournemouth Air Show and the Dorset County Show, we also hope to welcome more visitors from Dorchester, Weymouth, Poole and Bournemouth this year. We have a brilliant event planned with lots of exciting announcements to share with our visitors over the coming months.”
Steam Fair organisers also recently announced that advance ticket prices from last year’s show are being held for GDSF 2016. The main alteration to the ticket structure is that Sunday 28 August will now require a full day ticket as the show will continue onto August Bank Holiday Monday 29th, for which a discounted ticket will be available.
In previous years, the event has closed at 3pm on the final day. However for 2016, the show will stay open until 5pm on the Bank Holiday Monday so that a full programme of daytime events can be enjoyed on the final day of the show.
