Louis Ross Foundation raises substantial funds in 2021
The Louis Ross Foundation, which raises funds to help young people facing difficulties, had a good year in 2021 despite the pandemic.
The charity was set up in memory of the 17 year-old Canford School pupil who lost his life in a skiing accident in 2015.
In February, the charity received £250 from the Sturminster Marshall Co-op store from their community fund.
In May, ex-Canfordian Ollie Leat chose the foundation to benefit from a challenge he undertook with his dad Neil. The pair cycled from John O’Groats to Land’s End, raising £3,506.
July saw £15,000 being raised at The Louis Ross Festival and Wimborne House at Canford School raising £1,318.75.
The Tarrant Ladies Group closed their formal group in August but donated £250 of their remaining funds to the foundation.
In September, Louis’s dad John took part in a nine-day Ride Across Britain notching up 990 miles and raising more than £4,000; a tombola stall at Sturminster Marshall’s Churchill Green fundraising day produced £230; a quiz night at The Anchor at Shapwick raised £309 and Poole Netball League raised £500.
Grace Ashman, a friend of Louis, ran the Bournemouth half-marathon raising £461.25.
Over the past five years, more than £100,000 has been donated to the foundation.
Last year recipients were: Stable Home Family Trust £1,079; Victoria School Livability £2,000; Challengers £1,250; a tailor-made tricycle for a young Downs Syndrome boy £994; Mosaic bereavement counselling £700; a garden makeover for the family of a Beaucroft School pupil with multiple difficulties £3,000; Faithworks Wessex for Sleepsafe £3,060.
