‘Lucky’ Poole care home resident celebrates 100 years
Betty, who lives at Care South’s Elizabeth House in Dolbery Road, and who has lived in Poole all her life, has celebrated her 100th birthday.
A Poole care home resident is very philosophic about heaving reached a century, saying it was simply a matter of “luck.”
Betty, who lives at Care South’s Elizabeth House in Dolbery Road, celebrated her 100th birthday on Sunday 21 April with a visit from Mayor of Poole Cllr Jo Clements and her consort. She enjoyed a party with the other residents.
Betty left school at 14 and worked in a bookshop before joining the WRAF. She has lived in Poole throughout her life and spent 20 years happily married to her late husband, Dennis.
Betty said: “I’m very lucky to still be here and I am still healthy and can get about. I had a nice husband, Dennis, who was secretary to the Sheriff and Mayor of Poole. We had a wonderful life together. Now, I’m happy living at Elizabeth House as they look after me very well.”
Elouise Powell, home manager at Elizabeth House, said: “Seeing Betty so happy on her special day brought a tear to the eye of some of the team as she’s such a lovely lady and an absolute pleasure to care for.”
