Lyme Regis boat academy holds Open Day
Visitors are welcome to the Lyme Regis Boat Building Academy Open Day this Saturday to see what the students are working on.

The Boat Building Academy in Lyme Regis will throw open its doors for its annual Open Day on Saturday 3 May and welcome visitors to see what its students have been working on.
Visitors will get the chance to see the latest student-built boats, find out about courses on offer and enjoy entertainment and food.
The academy is situated on Monmouth Beach next to Lyme Regis’s historic cobb and is the first port of call for trainee professional boat builders, furniture makers and woodworking enthusiasts from across the UK.
During the family-friendly Open Day, attendees will be able to see the workshop up close, meet tutors and students, and see the boats currently under construction, including a striking 18-foot Carvel launch, two traditional clinker-built boats and the restoration of a classic Firefly racing dinghy.
There will also be furniture on display, designed and made by students, showcasing the skills taught on the academy’s furniture-making courses.
There will also be family-friendly activities, a performance by the Lyme Regis Moonrakers, a barbeque by local chef James Whetlor, teas, coffees and cakes, and drinks from the Lyme Regis Brewery.
Plus, a raffle will be held to raise money for the academy’s Bursary Fund.
The Boat Building Academy offers courses from just two days to 40 weeks, and a range of bursaries are available. Information on this will also be on hand throughout the day.
The Open Day is free to attend and takes place from 11am until 4pm on Saturday 3 May at the BBA, Monmouth Beach, Lyme Regis, Dorset DT7 3JN.
