Man jailed for robbery at bookmakers in Ferndown
A man from London has been jailed following a robbery at the end of January at a bookmakers in Ferndown.
Yannis Young, aged 34, of Minet Avenue, Harlesdon, London, was sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court on 26 March after admitting a charge of robbery.
He was sentenced to six years in prison with an extended licence period of a further two years.
At around 10pm on 31 January 2020 two members of staff were in the process of locking up the Betfred store in Victoria Road when two men approached.
The men were wearing balaclavas and gloves and armed with a knife. They made threats to the staff members and forced them back inside the store.
One of the men took around £150 in cash before leaving while the second man, Young, remained in the store with the two victims, demanding further money, before he left a short time later by smashing a glass door to get out.
Officers arrived and Young was tracked by a police dog and found hiding in a bush outside a nearby block of flats. He was in possession of a rucksack that contained a balaclava and gloves.
The second man was not located and enquiries are ongoing to identify him.
Detective Constable Jordan Hopkins, of Bournemouth CID, said, “This must have been a very frightening ordeal for the staff at the betting shop and I am pleased that thanks to the quick arrival of officers we were able to track and locate one of the men responsible for this offence.
“Our efforts will continue to identify the second man involved in the robbery.”
