Man jailed for unprovoked stabbing in Poole

Daniel Nathan Lowe, aged 27, of Steer Road in Swanage, was sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court on 2 January after admitting charges of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent, possessing an offensive weapon, aggravated taking a vehicle without consent and possession of cannabis.

He received an eight-year prison sentence, with an extended licence period of a further four years. He was also disqualified from driving for 69 months and made the subject of a restraining order for 10 years, prohibiting him from contacting the victim.

On 16 June 2017 Lowe went to Tyre City on Hatch Pond Road at the Nuffield Industrial Estate.

He chatted with the victim, a 31-year-old man, who worked at the business and was known to Lowe.

They got into the victim’s car and it was there that Lowe suddenly launched an unprovoked attack, stabbing the victim in the chest a number of times.

He managed to get out of the car and attempted to run away but was pursued by Lowe. He slipped and as he did so Lowe stabbed him in the back. The victim fell to the floor and Lowe continued to stab him.

Workers on the site were alerted by the victim’s screams and saw Lowe with a knife in his hand stabbing the man.

The victim was eventually able to get up from the floor and ran to a nearby business, where a member of staff shut the door so Lowe could not follow him. Lowe was seen to get into the victim’s car and drive away.

The vehicle was spotted in the Oakdale area and police observed him driving recklessly and dangerously, crashing into another vehicle and failing to stop at the scene.

Lowe drove to the pedestrian crossing area directly outside Poole police station and then ran into the building, where he was arrested.

A kitchen knife was seized from the driver’s side door of the car.

When he was interviewed Lowe admitted the attack but gave no details on his motive.

The victim sustained multiple injuries to his abdomen, chest and limbs and a deep wound to his stomach that caused damage to his pancreas. He required surgery but is expected to make a full recovery.

Detective Sergeant Jessica Pearcey, of Bournemouth CID, said: “This was a sustained and brutal attack that left the victim with very serious injuries and he was fortunate they were not even worse.

“We will always take violent incidents of this nature extremely seriously and I hope that the sentence imposed by the court reflects this and sends out a message that knife crime will not be tolerated.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the members of the public and staff from local businesses who came to the victim’s aid following the incident and those that assisted the investigation by providing witness statements.”
