Rafal Seniuk, 21 from Poland, was sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court on 21 October, after pleading guilty to causing death by careless driving.
He received a 24-week prison sentence suspended for two years, a fine of £250 and was also disqualified from driving in the UK for three years.
The court heard that Seniuk was driving a Polish-registered Mercedes Sprinter minibus van along Parkwood Road in Bournemouth on 21 August when he failed to stop at a ‘give way’ junction at Southbourne Road. The minibus collided with a Honda Jazz and tipped onto its side.
Sadly, one passenger from the minibus – 31-year-old Krzysztof Krafczyk from Poland – was pronounced dead at the scene
Three other men – aged 21, 26 and 54 – who were also inside the minibus, suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene by paramedics.
The driver of the Honda car – a 44-year-old man from the Bournemouth area – was taken to the Royal Bournemouth Hospital with minor injuries.
Police Constable Kevin Farenden, of Dorset Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Team, said: “Rafal Seniuk was employed to drive people from Poland to England when the collision occurred. His manner of driving that evening fell below the expected standard and tragically resulted in one man losing his life.
“I would like to remind motorists not to become complacent when travelling on unfamiliar roads either within the country or when abroad. Traffic signs are there for a reason and I would urge people to ensure that they remain aware of the potential dangers that exist around each corner.”
