Many services return to Dorset libraries
Although in certain areas of our lives, things are far from normal, as far as Dorset libraries are concerned, some services are resuming.
From Monday, 14 September, residents can start reserving items from the library catalogue for pick up from the library. People will also be able to make reservations in person at their local branch.
It is expected that there will be a big demand, so there will be a temporary limit of 10 reservations per library member at any one time to ensure everyone gets the best chance of reserving the items they want. The pick-up library will notify you when your reserved item becomes available for collection.
The regular loan periods have now been reinstated – 21 days for books and seven or 14 days for DVDs. This means the temporary 28-day loan period will be removed.
Overdue charges and hire fees have also been reinstated.
Before visiting a library to collect a reserved item you should check the opening hours as most libraries are operating on revised hours. Books can be returned 24 hours a day via the return boxes, which also means you do not need to enter the building.
If you are not sure whether you still want to borrow items you have previously requested, log on to your library account and cancel anything that you no longer need.
Any items that were already overdue on 18 March and are still out on loan will have started accruing overdue charges from Monday 17 August. Overdue charges were paused between 18 March and 16 August, so you will not be charged for this period.
Thousands of e-books, e-audiobooks, and even magazines, newspapers and comics are available to download for free online.
