Money raised following Bournemouth Hospital Charity’s March for Men 2015 has exceeded £16,000 with even more due to come in.
Hundreds of men, women and children took to the seafront in March and either walked or ran the 1km, 5km, or 10km routes to raise money for prostate template biopsy equipment at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital (RBH).
Prostate template biopsy equipment enables urologists to investigate the whole prostate gland giving a much more accurate diagnosis. The state of the art equipment will reduce waiting times for patients at RBH, improve the speed and accuracy of diagnosing prostate cancer and reduce infection rates.
Barry Wilson, Fundraising Officer at Bournemouth Hospital Charity, said: “We are thrilled with the success of the 2015 March for Men. £16,000 is a fantastic amount but we know there’s still more to come in. If you haven’t submitted your sponsorship money please do so – it really will make a difference.
“We have already set the date for next year’s event, which will take place on Sunday 20 March 2016, so please put the dates in your diaries so you don’t miss out.”
Over 15,000 men are treated at the hospital each year for a number of conditions including prostate and testicular cancer.
Bournemouth Hospital Charity aims to raise £2m each year to support the patient experience above and beyond what the NHS can provide. Donations to the charity provide the funding for much needed equipment and resources.
