March for Men 2014
After its successful first year, Bournemouth Hospital Charity’s ‘March for Men’ will return to Bournemouth seafront on 22 March.
Around 350 people took part in 2014 raising over £25,000 by either walking or running 1km, 5km, or 10km. The money raised will directly help men who undergo surgery for prostate cancer by funding a valuable piece of equipment for the Urology Department at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital (RBH).
Consultant Urologist, Mr Kevin Turner, said: “Last year’s event was an incredible success and really raised awareness of men’s health services at the hospital.
“We used the money raised to buy an insufflator which works alongside our state-of-the-art di Vinci Robot. During surgery, pressures in the surgical area change and keeping them constant makes surgery simpler. The insufflator works by maintaining gas pressure which helps to keep the area visually clear for the surgeon and helps to reduce the time that patients are in surgery.
“Over 15,000 men are treated at the hospital each year for a number of conditions including prostate and testicular cancer and by supporting this event you will be helping these patients.”

Bournemouth Hospital Charity aims to raise £2m each year to support the patient experience above and beyond what the NHS can afford. Donations to the charity provide the funding for much needed equipment and resources.
