Samantha Hetreed from Oxley Sports Centre in Sherborne and a team of Master Swimmers from Wincanton Swim Club (WSC) have completed a five-kilometre relay in one hour and three minutes and raised £1,235 for Sport Relief.
Samantha, along with Philippa O’Grady, Adele Parham, Julia Hendrie and Caroline Law, challenged themselves to raise £1,000 for the cause and are thrilled to have broken the target. “The team trained incredibly hard at Oxley and we’re delighted to have the support of so many people and smash our fundraising target,” says Samantha.
Sport Relief brings the entire nation together to get active, raise cash and change lives. And for 2014 and 2016, Sport Relief has partnered with Swimathon, as part of the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Games. The money raised by the public is sent by Comic Relief to extremely vulnerable and disadvantaged people in the UK and throughout the world, giving a helping hand to turn their lives around.
In the UK, the money raised gives shelter to young people living on the streets and protection to those living with domestic abuse. Across the world, the money helps children in education and provides communities with fresh water and life-saving vaccines. And that’s just the start.
