Mayor of Ferndown to cycle 40km for local charity
The Mayor of Ferndown, Cllr Terry Cordery, will take on the challenge as part of his 87th birthday.

To celebrate turning 87, the mayor of Ferndown will complete a 40km bike ride and raise funds for charity.
Cllr Terry Cordery is raising money for the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation (JTYAF). John Thornton was a Royal Marine tragically killed in Afghanistan in 2008. This April would have been his 40th birthday, and to mark the occasion the charity is challenging supporters to complete a challenge related to the number 40.
Cllr Cordery is a dedicated supporter of JTYAF and recently organised a quiz night that raised nearly £3,000 for the charity. In response to the ‘40 for JT’ challenge, the mayor has agreed to cycle a 40km journey along the Castleman Trail, accompanied by family members.
The charity said this cycling challenge holds special significance and is deeply appreciated by everyone at the JTYAF. Pete Thornton, co-founder of the charity, said: “We really can’t thank Terry enough. He is a great friend of the JTYAF and an inspiration to us all.
“He has Ferndown front and centre of everything he does and is totally committed to giving the youngsters in our community the opportunities they deserve.”
The charity, which supports young people with scholarships and bursaries to enable them to access opportunities and chase their dreams, extended their heartfelt thanks to Cordery, the team at Ferndown Town Council, and all the participants in the challenge for their support.
Cllr Cordery is asking supporters to donate 10p per kilometre (a total of just £4). If you would like to support the mayor, please visit https://www.justgiving.com/page/ferndown-town-council-1.
