Back for the second event of 2018, the free-to-attend Metropole Market on 24 June, will feature a New Orleans inspired Mardi Gras procession.
After the success of the first market, which attracted 17,000 visitors, Metropole Market is bringing more entertainment to Lansdowne, to recreate the carnival-like atmosphere of the Mardi Gras celebrations in New Orleans’ French Quarter.
Featuring bright colours, feathers, beads and show-inspired outfits, the parade will be led by the street performers, Pantheatrix and Miss Dorset 2017, Samantha Bumford. Everyone is encouraged to join the procession and dress in Mardi Gras inspired outfits.
The market will also feature fantastic Jazz entertainment delivered by Mombassa, The Gatsby Stompers, Scared of Jazz and Sara Harris Vocalist. There will also be a variety of food stalls showcasing famous Louisiana cuisine, in addition to the market’s regular food stalls.
To give everyone a chance to join in, there will be two processions. The first procession will be at 12 noon and the next will start at 2.30pm.
Lyn Turnbull, co-organiser of the Metropole Market and co-owner of Mexigo Burrito Bar, said, “At our second 2018 market, we want everyone to experience a taste of New Orleans’ fascinating culture, through the Mardi Gras parade, Jazz music and Louisiana inspired food stalls. We are looking forward to welcoming visitors to Holdenhurst Road this Sunday for a day of fun in our very own French Quarter!”
