Millstream Theatre to perform at Wimborne museum
A theatre company of learning disabled and autistic actors is staging a new and original show at the Museum of East Dorset on 7 August.
Millstream Theatre, Dorset’s theatre company of learning disabled and autistic actors, are about to let the stars in their hearts shine brightly when they perform a new original show ‘Hat’s It!’ at their base, the Museum of East Dorset (MED), at 7pm on 7 August.
Their last show, ‘In Harmony’, toured to Dorchester Arts Centre, winning praise for its “tremendous humour and sheer joy.” Since then, Millstream has been chosen by the Mayor of Wimborne, Cllr Jeff Hart, as one of his two charities for the year.
Co-artistic director, Tony Horitz, promises high-quality entertainment and some serious stories that give unique insights into the lives of the performers.
He said: “Millstream aims to celebrate inclusivity and diversity, using the arts to enable people who are often marginalised to find their voice and entertain the community at large.”
To achieve this, they’ve been working with Horitz and professional theatre artists, including co-director Tam Gilbert and actor Michele O’Brien, to create visually striking and highly original drama, dance, movement and poetry.
Millstream Theatre member, Josh Ward, said: “Millstream means to me freedom to express myself in a kind and safe environment and it allows me to forget my worries for a couple of hours. It is truly awesome, and I love being part of it.”
Tam Gilbert said: “We really hope you’ll want to come and support this unique Dorset theatre company. There’s something for everybody. We’ll also have a raffle and bar, so can promise a great evening.”
Tickets: suggested donations of £5–£10. Reserve your tickets in advance to avoid disappointment by emailing millstream@museumofeastdorset.co.uk
