Susan Simmonds from Bransgore and Denise Freemantle from West Wellow are taking part in the 18th London MoonWalk on 16 May. Raising funds for breast cancer charity they will start at Clapham Common and walk 26.2 miles overnight through London.
‘MoonWalking’ for the third time – having previously taken part in 2011 and 2012 – Susan and Denise will be joining over 17,000 women and some very brave men who will be Walking the Walk in their trademark decorated bras, bringing wonderful and outrageous designs to the streets of London.
In previous years the walkers have been accompanied by celebrities and personalities including Jennifer Saunders, Linda Nolan, Kristin Scott-Thomas and BBC South Today presenter Sally Taylor.
The MoonWalk London is organised by health charity Walk the Walk Worldwide; their flagship event the MoonWalk raised in excess of £6.2million in 2014 alone, bringing the grand fundraising total to £98.5 million.
Since the first MoonWalk in 1998, this unique challenge has brought together almost 300,000 women and men who have the united goal of raising money and awareness for vital breast cancer causes. Funds raised benefit charities including Breakthrough Breast Cancer, the Breast Cancer Institute and Penny Brohn Cancer Care.
1 in 8 women in the UK are expected to experience some form of breast cancer.
Aiming to complete the walk in around the 6hrs 30mintues they achieved in 2012, Susan and Denise said, “We’ve done it before – so we know it’s a very tough challenge, but we also know that when we cross that finish line we will have made a very real difference to the vital work of the breast cancer charities.
“We’re asking everybody to join in and support us by donating as much or as little as they can.”
