Students sold homemade shortbread and cakes at Moyles Court history club’s Poppy Appeal fundraising event, while others helped to organise a ‘dummy grenade’ throwing competition which brought out the competitive element in staff and students alike. A cheque for £135 will be sent off to the Royal British Legion along with a cardboard poppy signed by students, which will be displayed in a field of ‘poppies’ outside the Menin Gate in Ypres.
The fundraising continues with a raffle which will be drawn on 11 November. The prize is a genuine First World War Medal donated by Mr Penrose, head of boarding.
Headmaster, Greg Meakin said: “Our weekly history club continues to provide an excellent forum for the exchange and discussion of ideas for our pupils and our ‘Evening with Alice Lisle’ will focus attention on the fascinating heritage we have here at Moyles Court. I am immensely proud of the pupils’ efforts and money raised for the Poppy Appeal.”
