Mural makeover for Wimborne underpass announced
Wimborne BID has commissioned artist Kizzi B Creative to design a mural for the town’s underpass.

Professional artist Kizzi Bennett, of Kizzi B Creative, has been selected to create a mural in the underpass at Allenview Car Park which runs under Hanham Road in Wimborne.
Bennett has installed several murals across Dorset, including one at Towngate Bridge in Poole last year. She will work alongside 12 art students from Beaucroft College on the project.
The mural is being organised and funded by Wimborne BID (Business Improvement District). BID chair Fiona Harwood said: “Wimborne BID installed the wall wrap that was in the underpass before and which sadly reached the end of its life. We are delighted to be driving this project forward as part of our ongoing commitment to enhancing all areas of Wimborne and maintaining it as a beautiful place to live and visit.”
Bennett is a Dorset-based artist who takes her inspiration from nature, animals and outdoor adventuring. Much of her work reflects these themes. She said: “Growing up by the south coast of England, my greatest source for inspiration is the forest, sea and countryside.”
Kizzi is also a passionate conservationist. She added: “My mission is to use 100 per cent recycled paints and eco-friendly materials in all my work.”
Laura Byford, Visual Arts Leader at Beaucroft College is thrilled that her students will have the opportunity to work with Bennett to decorate the underpass. She said: “This is so exciting for our students. What an incredible opportunity! This project offers chances not only to learn creative skills from a brilliant artist but also to help our students who have a range of special needs to develop valuable life skills.”
Mayor of Wimborne, Cllr Jeff Hart, is also supporting the project and helped to select the artist. He said: “Well done Wimborne BID for making this happen. I am delighted about this project – a school working with a professional artist to create something new for the community. The staff and students are terribly enthusiastic to leave a permanent installation of their work. All will benefit!”
The next step of the project is to decide on a theme for the mural. Painting at the site is planned to take place in May. People will be able to follow the progress with time lapse photography and regular updates on social media by following the account @kizzibcreative and @wimbornebid.
