Medical herbalist Rachel Heathcote will be leading a special walk and workshop at Wimborne-based Knoll Gardens on 18 July.
The event will begin with a gentle herb walk to unearth the secrets of Knoll Garden’s natural medicine chest before getting hands-on in a workshop designed to show you how to use natural herbs to treat common ailments. You will find out how to harvest and prepare each herb and go home with a selection of sample remedies to help you begin your own journey into the world of natural healing.
Herbal medicine is one of the oldest forms of medical treatment and uses natural plant preparations in the treatment of ‘dis-ease’. It is the first time that the secluded garden at Knoll has been selected as a venue for this type of event and owner Neil Lucas is looking forward to learning more about the medicinal properties of the plants that thrive in the garden.
Rachel Heathcote has been practising herbal medicine for 12 years and is a registered member of the National Institute of Medical Herbalists (NIMH). She is passionate about nature, plants and natural health and keen to help everyone understand more about their own health and wellbeing.
“This workshop will teach you about the essential herbs you can keep at home for treating common ailments including wounds, bites, burns, digestive problems, insomnia, stress, coughs and colds and pain,“ she said. “You’ll learn how to make simple remedies such as marigold macerated oil, lemon balm tincture, elderberry cordial and herbal baths and there will be recipe sheets and samples to take home.”
