Need a Christmas tree? Pull a pine in Arne this November
The annual conservation event on the heathland at RSPB Arne takes place on 29 and 30 November.
Instead of buying a commercially grown Christmas tree this winter, why not go and pull your own and do your bit to help the environment?
Every year, members of the public are invited to the Pull a Pine event held at RSPB Arne nature reserve near Wareham. By removing a pine tree from the land, you are helping RSPB protect this rare heathland that is home to some of the rarest wildlife in the UK, including Sand Lizards, Smooth Snakes, and heathland birds such as the Dartford Warblers and Nightjar.
Attendees can take home as many trees as they want. There will be tools including bow saws and loppers available to use, or you can bring your own (but no power tools).
The organisers recommend wearing long trousers, sturdy footwear, plenty of layers and a pair of garden or work gloves to handle the pine trees.
The Pull a Pine event will be held from 10am to 3pm on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 November, with last entry at 2pm. There will be live music, craft stalls, carol singing and delicious food, as well as coffee and mulled cider.
Attendees can also explore the rest of the nature reserve with their ticket.
