Sarah Birt from Poole is just one of the many people who have found their way into teaching. She said, “As a mental health researcher I loved working with young people and training people, so I thought if I became a teacher I could get more involved with young people at an earlier age, motivate them and get them more engaged in school.
“I decided to teach maths and applied for the School Direct training route. I first completed a subject knowledge enhancement course to make the transition from psychology to maths smoother and it made me feel better prepared. I love being a tutor. It’s amazing. The children are so smiley in the morning. I love seeing them in the corridor, when they are really happy to see you.”
