Local residents can now benefit from a new community library located in the grounds of Talbot Primary School.
The former mobile library unit is stationed permanently at the school and is now open to the public Mondays to Fridays from 2-4pm during school term times. It represents a fourth community library for residents.
Library staff have worked with Borough of Poole and Talbot Primary School to deliver new equipment and books as well as advice and support.
Councillor Mohan Iyengar, Cabinet Portfolio Holder covering libraries, Borough of Poole, said: “People may recall the consultations and the eventual decision to close the mobile library service at the end of last year. Such decisions are never easy, so I’m pleased to see this new service up and running fast. It remains free to residents and I encourage people to take a look. With our other community libraries, plus the home-service, we want to offer as much library service as possible to the people of Poole while keeping it all cost-effective.”
Kate Curtis, Head Teacher, Talbot Primary School, said: “We promote a love of books and reading here at Talbot Primary School. The new library is a fantastic resource for supporting life-long learning and enabling everyone to experience the joy of reading, therefore we are delighted to play a part in sustaining this service. It is a pleasure to host the library on our school grounds and spread this message throughout our local area. We would very much like Talbot to become a hub within the community and this is a great step towards achieving that aim.”
