Ten new deacons were ordained in Salisbury Cathedral on Sunday 30 June by the Bishop of Salisbury, the Right Reverend Nicholas Holtam – two of whom will serve their curacies in Wimborne. Belinda Marflitt at Wimborne Minster and Ben Dyson at New Borough and Leigh St John were among those ordained.
Belinda who comes from Hythe, near Southampton had a career in nursing before starting her theological studies three years ago, at Sarum College in Salisbury. Belinda took part in her first service at the Minster at Evensong on Sunday evening and this was followed by a welcome party for her and the family.
Ben who hails from Salisbury, followed university by first working in a church overseas and then back in the UK as a teaching assistant. He then trained for the ministry at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford. Married to Bryony they are expecting their first child shortly.
They were welcomed to St John’s at a special tea party on Sunday afternoon.
