New Milton musician brings swing band to Christchurch for Christmas
Five Star Swing will perform at the Regent Centre in Christchurch on Sunday 1 December, giving classic songs the swing band treatment.
If you’re looking for a way to get into the Christmas mood, a swing band performance on Sunday 1 December at Christchurch’s Regent Centre could be the answer.
The Big Band at Christmas with Five Star Swing will be performing all of your favourite Christmas songs, but with a dynamic swing band treatment in the style of Glenn Miller, Sinatra, Basie, and Nat King Cole.
Five Star Swing have performed at London’s Leicester Square Theatre, Dame Vera Lynn’s Charity Ball, Blackpool Tower Ballroom and on BBC’s Children in Need.
The band features Simone Smith from the Ivy Benson Orchestra and Tony Bennett’s trombonist.
The band’s manager is Chris Smith Jnr, a New Milton resident and composer and arranger for the BBC Radio Big Band. He has also performed with the Herb Miller Big Band (the brother of the American big band legend Glenn Miller).
The band have been described as “superb” by the BBC’s Sheila Tracy, while The Telegraph called the show “swing and song of the highest order.”
