No hedge clippers allowed as 'Brave the Shave' team backs all-clear boss
In July, Paul Hilliam, the manager at Stewarts Christchurch Garden Centre, confirmed that he is now “all clear” after two major surgeries and embarking on an extensive course of radio and chemotherapy on head and neck cancer.

Since being diagnosed with cancer in 2013, garden centre manager, Paul Hilliam has received great care and support from Macmillan Cancer Support, and after announcing his all-clear news to his team, he asked for volunteers to have their hair removed for sponsorship as part of the Macmillan Brave the Shave fundraising initiative.
“I have been delighted that so far 21 of our team, including two of the female members, have signed up to have their heads shaved at the centre on 25 September. Our target is to raise over a £2,000 for the charity through sponsorship. Pledges are coming in thick and fast,” said Paul.
Despite the enthusiasm to use gardening shears, clippers and other appropriate instruments to create the bald heads, the rules and common sense required by health and safety will be applied on the day with the help of Blades of Highcliffe. The shave will be a public event at the Christchurch centre.
MD, Martin Stewart is impressed by the staff’s response to Paul’s challenge and said, “I have offered Paul my congratulations on his great news and I am both proud and inspired by the goodwill that the team is showing in their support for this initiative to fund this vital charity.”
