Dorset Venus Awards 2016 in association with Mercedes-Benz of Poole held its Nominations Launch Party at Playgolf Bournemouth on Tuesday 19 April. Now in its seventh year in Dorset, the awards go from strength-to-strength in recognising the brightest female business talent in the region.
Along with this year’s sponsors, the event was attended by over 115 guests from businesses and organisations across the region. To add a little sparkle to the occasion guests were entertained with the music of recording artist Polly Morris who wrote a song especially for the occasion.
The awards celebrate the vital contribution that women in business make to the local, regional, and national economy. In Dorset this year nominees and applicants will be competing in up to 15 categories. A new category has been introduced in Dorset this year – Inspirational Woman in Technology (STEM disciplines). Anyone can nominate a friend, client or family member for the awards.
Martin White, Dealer Principal of Mercedes-Benz of Poole, said of their involvement as Associate Sponsor: “We are very excited to be a part of the Venus Awards 2016 and to celebrate local working women in business. Our industry is historically a male-dominated environment and we are working very hard to change that. If you visit our business you will see many examples of this this and I think we have a number of women in the business worthy of a nomination, or even a win!”
Hayley O’Shea, Head of PR at Talbot Heath School, who is sponsoring this year’s ever-popular public vote category of Business Mother of the Year, said of the launch and their support of the Venus Awards: “Talbot Heath School are proud sponsors of the Business Mother Award and we were delighted to attend the Venus launch event. There was a real buzz, a room full of wonderful, hard-working, fabulous women (and some great men too!) Being a Mum is the most important job in the world; our girls leave Talbot Heath as confident, compassionate, capable young ladies – characteristics that they may need in future years to juggle a career and family life.”
Also attending the launch party was Samantha West, Marketing Manager at ATLAS ELECTRONIK UK Ltd, who is sponsoring a new and exciting category of Inspirational Woman in Technology, said: “We attended the Venus Awards launch this evening as proud 2015 winners and 2016 sponsors of a new category, Inspirational Woman in Technology. Excellent networking and inspiring speeches made a wonderful evening for all.
“We look forward to receiving nominations for outstanding women that have made a real contribution covering the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) disciplines.”
Charity sponsor for the Dorset Venus Awards 2016 is BOO, whose aim is to help African children disadvantaged through economic poverty.
