Talented pupils at Oakdale Junior School have won a competition run by Lighthouse, Poole’s Centre for the Arts entitled ‘Designing Neverland’.
The competition, which links with the venue’s Christmas production of Peter Pan, invited local schools to create their own artistic interpretation of Neverland, with a top prize of £250 worth of art materials on offer to the winning school.
Entries from seven local schools are now on display in the Top Floor Gallery at Lighthouse, in a variety of mediums. But it was three spectacular 3D pieces created by a group of seven to nine-year-olds from Oakdale Junior School that really caught the judges’ eyes.
Proud teacher Jemima Fricker explains: “”The children made their Neverland scene from paper, collage, leaves and scrap materials. In it you can discover the mermaid’s bay, fairy castle and enchanted forest as you explore their magical world.”
Head of Sales & Marketing for Lighthouse, Sara St George commented: “We were overwhelmed by the amount of effort that has gone into all the Designing Neverland entries, but we were particularly impressed by the work of Oakdale Junior School. They have created a stunning and detailed piece that fulfilled the brief in every sense. Each class was hands on with the three models that formed this extraordinary vision of Neverland.”
Entries from the ‘Designing Neverland’ competition will be on display in the Top Floor Gallery at Lighthouse until the final performance of Peter Pan on Sunday 3 January 2016.
