NEWS FEED
Diverse Abilities is gearing up for its annual Chinese Dragon Boat Race taking place across Poole Park’s lake on Sunday 10 July between 10am and 3.30pm. The event, supported and sponsored by Spectrum Property Care, will be raising vital funds for the only charity that supports children and adults with disabilities in Dorset.
Teams are being urged to sign up now and join in with the event that sees teams go head-to-head in boats decorated with dragon figureheads. Anyone can take part – companies, families or friends. No experience is required as full coaching is provided.
Each team comprises a minimum of nine and maximum of 17 members. An experienced helm will join the crew, to keep the boat pointing in the right direction towards the finish line.
Sharon Wells, events fundraiser at Diverse Abilities, said, “This is a very lively and fun event to take part in right on our community’s doorstep. Everyone that has taken part in previous years will be aware that all participants, plus the spectators, have a fantastic day out getting into the team spirit and cheering everybody on. Whether you are a complete novice, adrenaline addict or keen boat racer, you can look forward to a thrilling ride.”
Supporting the event for the third year is Spectrum Property Care, one of the largest property services companies in the south west – maintaining around 45,000 homes as well as providing maintenance and building services for all sorts of buildings – from beach huts to hospitals – for housing associations, local authorities and private businesses.
Spectrum Property Care also participated in the Dragon Boat Race the past two years and had such a great time they are taking part again this year. Paul Bryan, Managing Director at Spectrum Property Care said, “Our teams had a wonderful time at the races. There was healthy competition among staff and great team-building. We are really excited to be taking part for a third year and supporting Diverse Abilities.”
Anyone over the age of eight can take part in the Dragon Boat Race, but they must be confident in deep water and wearing a buoyancy aid. An adult must accompany participants under 18 during the event.
The team entry fee is £170, which is approximately £10 per person for a full team. The minimum of £750 per team (just £45 per person to fundraise) is also required as sponsorship for the event. Your fundraising could buy a sensory bean cushion which includes a speaker to vibrate with music so that children with hearing impairments can feel music. These chairs are so important for children with sensory processing difficulties.
Sharon added, “By taking part in the Dragon Boat Race, you will be helping raise vital funds for Diverse Abilities. Why not take up our special offer and sign up now!”
