Ferndown Leisure Centre will be hosting a Zoggs ‘Oceans of Fun Day’ on Saturday 13 June to encourage and inspire more children to get involved in aquatic sports.
Leading Australian swimwear brand Zoggs has teamed up with Total Swimming, set up by Olympian Steve Parry, to run a series of events across the country providing up to 150 free spaces (at each event) for kids aged 7-14-years-old.
In Ferndown, this exciting afternoon will be attended by the following Olympic athletes:
Adam Whitehead, Olympian – Former European & Commonwealth Champion in fast swimming
Craig Figes, 2012 Olympian – GB Men’s Team Captain for water polo
Katie Skelton – 2012 Olympian – GB Junior Squad 2003 – GB Senior Squad 2007 in synchronised swimming
The event will feature skills and games across the different aquatic disciplines – fast swimming, mini water polo, synchronised swimming, Rookie lifesaving, and CPR – with every participant getting the chance to try each of the activities by rotating through the stations.
The athletes will be introduced at the beginning of the event and the children (and their families) will have the opportunity to meet the Olympians outside of the pool for autographs, photos and the showing of Olympic and Commonwealth medals.
Each child will receive a Zoggs Oceans of Fun swimming hat and be presented with a medal at the end of the event – after having the chance to race against an Olympian!
Steve Parry who set up Total Swimming said, “We are really excited to have teamed up with Zoggs to run this series of Zoggs Oceans of Fun Days. Zoggs is a swim brand with a real passion for swimming and, by using role models in the form of Olympic and Commonwealth athletes, we hope to inspire, motivate and educate young people who will have the chance to come along and take part in these events for free.
“They will not only learn a huge amount at these events but get a once in a lifetime chance to swim against a top athlete and, we hope, begin to understand the benefits, and enjoyment, of adopting an active, healthy lifestyle.”
Spaces are limited and booking up fast so children keen to sign up for this unique event, should contact the Ferndown Leisure Centre directly on 01202 877468. Participants must be aged between 7 and 14-years-old and able to swim 25 metres unaided. Everyone taking part must have registered and completed a consent form.
