Autism Wessex will be hosting a new event to kick start its fundraising programme as part of World Autism Awareness Month in April 2014.
Taking place on Saturday 22 March the ‘Onesie Walk’ will be an opportunity to walk AFC Bournemouth’s pitch inside the stadium whilst wearing a comfy or quirky onesie of your choice.
Paul Reade, Community and Events Fundraiser said: “We are being supported by Rob Mitchell and Liz Finney of AFC Bournemouth and without their great support we couldn’t hope to pull off such a worthwhile event. We are hoping the event will appeal to children and school groups as well as families. We are encouraging all those entered to gain sponsorship for completing 90 minutes of walking or for a certain number of laps achieved in 90 minutes. Every penny raised will go direct to Autism Wessex to support those people in our community whose lives are affected by autism. Please come and join us and make a difference.”
Anyone under 6 years old will go free if accompanied by a paying adult. Adults cost £5, children £3 and families £12 (2 x adults & 2 x children). Minimum sponsorship is £30. Different start times are available from 9am and 11am.
Every finisher will receive a medal to mark their achievement as well as refreshments.
Rob Mitchell, Commercial Director at AFC Bournemouth added: “We are always delighted to support local causes and especially those whose work helps young people. We are sure this fun and worthwhile event will appeal to local schools, community groups and Junior Cherries and we encourage everyone to take part, see the stadium in all its glory in this rare opportunity to walk around the outside of the pitch and raise much needed funds for charity. We look forward to seeing you there!”
