Students, staff and parents at Ferndown Upper School are celebrating another excellent set of A-level results. Nearly 70% of all students who took A2 courses achieved the top grades of A*-C. Results are so good that over 95% of students who applied succeeded in gaining first choice university places. Amongst these are a significant number going to the top universities; the Russell Group, including Imperial College, York, Cardiff and Southampton.
Headteacher Alex Wills is full of praise for the students: “These results are a credit to our young people and their parents – they have worked so hard to achieve them securing a place at the top Universities has become much more competitive in recent years so I am so delighted our Sixth Formers have succeeded with their first choices. I must also praise our staff here at Ferndown as they believe in the capabilities of all our students and create the right blend of drive, ambition and care needed to secure such wonderful results for a fully comprehensive school. This is reflected in the success of students on more Applied courses such as BTEC where results have also been exceptional this year; many students having gained Distinctions.”
