Pippins in Wimborne to be demolished next year
Utilities are being disconnected, asbestos will be removed in January 2022 and demolition of Pippins in Wimborne will start in February.
The Pippins building in Hanham Road, which has long been an eyesore in the landscape of Wimborne, is to be demolished.
Owners Dorset Council says it no longer needs the property which is not only in poor condition, it has suffered constant break-ins and vandalism since it was vacated.
At one time the building housed the council’s Children’s Services.
The site is to be redeveloped but no decision has yet been made about the future use of the site.
A conifer tree is to be removed on 5 November, and other trees will be pruned to allow the demolition to begin.
However some trees will be kept and protected during the works which will be supervised by an arboriculturalist.
After asbestos is removed from the building in January 2022, demolition will start at the beginning of February, and will be completed before the end of March. This is subject to obtaining statutory consents, and all such parties have received prior consultation regarding this scheme.
During the demolition works, there will be temporary traffic lights on Hanham Road periodically to permit safe working and access to the site.
