Police investigate death of elderly man in Bournemouth
Anyone near the Bournemouth Carlton Hotel at around 1pm on Tuesday 25 February who witnessed the assault should contact the police.
A man in his 60s who was attacked in Bournemouth on Tuesday 25 February was found dead at an address in Redhill Avenue on 28 February.
It is reported that the man was assaulted outside the Bournemouth Carlton Hotel on East Overcliff Drive at around 1pm and enquiries are continuing into this incident.
An investigation was launched by the Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT) and an initial post-mortem examination was carried out on Sunday 2 March. Further tests have been requested to establish the cause of death, which is currently being treated as unexplained.
A 46-year-old man from Bournemouth who was arrested on suspicion of murder has been released on conditional police bail while the investigation continues.
Detective Inspector Shaun Inkpen, of MCIT, said: “Our thoughts continue to remain with the loved ones of the man who sadly died and we are keeping them updated with the latest developments.
“The investigation is still in the early stages and we are going to be continuing our work to establish the cause of the man’s death and whether there is any link to the reported assault.
“I am urging anyone who was near to the Bournemouth Carlton Hotel at around 1pm on Tuesday 25 February and saw anything that may assist my enquiries to please come forward.
“The cordon in East Overcliff has now been removed and we would like to thank the public for their understanding while this was in place.
“We would encourage anyone with information or concerns to please speak with their local neighbourhood policing team.”
