Dorset Police is advising motorists to plan journeys and issuing crime prevention advice – ahead of a series of big summer events being held in the county.
With the Great Dorset Steam Fair, Bournemouth Air Festival and End of the Road Festival all being held between 28 August and 1 September, some traffic disruption is anticipated on the county’s roads.
Police are asking motorists and residents to think ahead and plan their weekends accordingly.
Superintendent Mick Rogers said: “It is inevitable that congestion will occur during this busy period and we are encouraging members of the public to take simple steps to make sure they get the most out of these great events.
“Plan ahead and allow extra time for journeys, listen for traffic announcements on the radio or check your route online before you travel. You should also take plenty of water to drink in the car if you find yourself waiting in traffic, especially in hot weather.
“We have been working closely with partners in preparation for the busy weekend to ensure everything runs smoothly and have additional resources and contingency plans in place.
“Members of the public should be particularly aware of the potential for Steam Fair traffic on the A354 and the Blandford ring-road from Wednesday 28 August until Sunday 1 September daily between 9am and 11am.”
Police officers will be present at the events to support event organisers and partners in ensuring a safe time for visitors.
Members of the public are being urged to take steps to keep themselves and their belongings safe and secure while enjoying the events.
Superintendent Mick Rogers continued: “We are asking the public to do their bit in keeping themselves safe by following some simple crime prevention tips.
“In busy or crowded areas, don’t leave wallets in back pockets and keep your bags and mobile phones close to you. Never leave valuables in vehicles or tents.
“Consider marking your property before you set off to an event and use secure locker facilities if provided.
“We also urge you to report crime at the time to police or event staff.”
