Police in East Dorset have carried out targeted patrols in Verwood to tackle road users driving in an anti-social and dangerous manner.
The operation took place throughout August in response to community concerns about bad driving in the area.
Examples included cars racing one another at speed and pulling handbrake turns around roundabouts.
To tackle the issue, officers from the Verwood Safer Neighbourhood Team and the road policing unit carried out targeted intelligence-led patrols.
This led to the following police action:
A 20-year-old Verwood man was served with a section 59 notice under the Police Reform Act 2002 for driving a silver BMW in an anti-social manner. If he is caught driving in a similar manner during the next 12 months his vehicle can be seized.
A 25-year-old Verwood man was stopped in a silver Honda car and found to be driving with a revoked licence. The vehicle was seized.
A blue Audi was seized for being driven with no insurance. The owner, an 18-year-old man from Verwood, was issued with a fixed penalty notice for allowing his vehicle to be driven unlawfully.
An 18-year-old Bournemouth man was reported for driving whilst disqualified. The matter is ongoing.
An 18-year-old recently qualified driver was caught speeding at over 50mph in a 30mph zone. The man, from Verwood, now has more than six penalty points on his licence during his probationary period and will have his licence revoked by the DVLA.
Traffic officers carried out additional patrols in the Verwood area during the evening of Friday 23 August 2014 and Saturday 24 August 2014 and issued seven fixed penalty notices for speeding offences.
Police Sergeant Simon Perry, Neighbourhood deputy for East Dorset, said: “Road safety is clearly a priority for Dorset Police. With assistance of traffic colleagues, we have identified key offenders and are committed to tackling this issue which has been raised by local residents.
“The presence of traffic officers was well received by the community and we will continue to target those who behave in an irresponsible manner on the roads.
“I would urge members of the public to call Dorset Police on 101 with information about anti-social or dangerous driving in their community.”
