Poole Grammar School is celebrating 100% success rate with five of their students being offered places on the Headstart EDT University courses this year.
Johnny Currell, Alex McCormick, Liam Wandowski, Tim Belchamber and Kyran Yeatman achieved in a year when over 800 pupils nationally were not offered places.
Headstart has been established for more than 16 years as a charitable trust providing hands-on Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) activities and engineering taster courses to encourage young people into technology-based careers.
Boys go to the top universities and undertake holiday courses run by inspirational leaders.
Johnny Currell, who aspires to become a naval architect and will be attending the marine engineering course at Southampton University, said, “It will be a great insight into the university and the course itself.
I am interested in marine engineering as it combines designing and testing of boats and structures in the sea.
I hope to meet others who share my interests and find out more about the course from the professors and lecturers at Southampton.”
Alex McCormick has been offered a Headstart place at Bristol University, Liam Wandowski will be attending Plymouth University, Tim Belchamber has a place at University of Exeter and Kyran Yeatman has been offered a Headstart course at Warwick University.
Andy Dallimore, Head of Design Technology said, “I am sure that the lads will all benefit from the courses they have chosen and will experience things that can only be demonstrated at university.
The Design and Technology Department are glad to have been able to support the pupils in their application and hope this fuels their desire to become engineers of the future and the school is happy to financially support these boys in their career aspirations. “
