Poole Central Library is proud to screen British Library talks
Poole Central Library is screening a series of free, live talks this month that are hosted by the British Library in London.
Among the live talks, fashion designer, environmentalist, and business woman, Vivienne Westwood, will talk about her passion for, and the importance of reading, while sharing a selection of her favourite books on 18 September.
Thursday 28 September will mark nearly 20 years since author Salman Rushdie was forced into hiding following the publication of The Satanic Verses. Melvyn Bragg and guests will come together to discuss and reflect about being pro-Rushdie campaigners and their ongoing fight to end the fatwa against the world-renowned author.
All screenings are part of the British Libraries’ Living Knowledge Network, a partnership between the British Library and 22 major libraries across the UK.
Funded by Arts Council England and the British Library, the Living Knowledge Network enables libraries to share knowledge, resources and activities, for the benefit of residents across the country.
Roly Keating, chief executive of the British Library said, “At the heart of the Living Knowledge Network is a simple aspiration: to create value by sharing ideas and sparking connections between libraries, collections and people across the UK.”
Cllr Mohan Iyengar, cabinet portfolio holder for culture and community, said, “These free events are a wonderful opportunity for everyone to listen to insightful discussions by some of the world’s most influential people, and I would encourage residents to go along.”
