Poole mayor opens new school library
The Mayor of Poole, Cllr Pete Miles, opened the library during a visit to Broadstone First School.

The Mayor of Poole, Cllr Pete Miles, joined the staff and children at Broadstone First School for the grand opening of a new school library. During his visit, he talked to the children about the importance of reading .
The mayor said: “Access to books and libraries is one of the greatest gifts you can give to a child.
“I was honoured to join the staff and children at Broadstone First School for the grand opening of their new library and look forward to hearing all about their reading adventures the next time I visit.”
He was greeted upon arrival by the entire school and its staff in the playground. The mayor also addressed the students at the daily assembly.
The new library is designed as an area where children can go to relax and enjoy reading in a calm atmosphere. Teacher Ben Burden, who oversaw the project, said: “The children really enjoyed having the mayor visit.
“He explained to them who he was, what his role is and then took some interesting questions.
“The library has beanbags and fairy lights and includes devices that children can use to read books electronically.
“The mayor cut the ribbon to officially open it, and he also visited The Link, where the school’s SEND provision is situated.
“We also had staff from Broadstone Library at the visit, and they donated some wonderful books.”
Broadstone First School is part of the Castleman Academy Trust, which also operates Broadstone Middle School, Ferndown First and Middle Schools and Parley First School. The Trust’s CEO Rhonda Moore said: “Reading is a foundation block of learning and the more we can do encourage children to read, the better.”
