Poole public urged to back veterans’ charity
Poole-based veterans’ charity Helping Homeless Veterans UK is hoping people will vote for them in the Selco Stars competition.
Your vote could help to secure £5,000 for a Poole-based veterans’ charity.
Helping Homeless Veterans UK is one of 12 finalists from around the UK going before a public vote in the Selco Stars competition, which attracted hundreds of entries.
Selco Builders Warehouse – which has a branch in Poole on Waterloo Road – has organised the competition, designed to support charities and community groups in their Covid-19 recovery.
A team of Selco judges selected a dozen causes to receive £500 worth of building materials and now the shortlisted groups will be aiming to top a vote and land a cash windfall.
A second prize of £1,250 is also available to mark the company’s 125th anniversary.

Helping Homeless Veterans UK, a not-for-profit organisation which was formed in 2019 has already provided homes for 141 people who have previously served in the Armed Forces.
David Wood, CEO of Helping Homeless Veterans UK, said: “There are a worryingly high number of veterans who come out of the forces and struggle to get back on their feet.
“Our purpose is not only to find them a home but also help to rebuild their lives.
“Winning £5,000 would make a huge difference and allow us to help even more people, so I’d urge people to vote for us.”
