A creative eight-year-old Haymoor Junior School pupil has her eyes on the prize after winning a competition to design a pair of glasses.
Alexis Woodman was presented with a collection of Roald Dahl books and a fun model of her design at Scrivens Opticians & Hearing Care on High Street, Poole, as regional winner of a national competition.
Youngsters were encouraged to submit their imaginative designs with all proceeds from the £1 entry fee going to Alzheimer’s Society.
Alexis’ mother Louis Offord said: “Alexis loves reading and saw the competition when she came with me into the branch. She entered it because her grandfather has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. She wanted to make her design fun and girly.”
It was the first time Alexis had entered a competition.
Branch manager Samantha Watts said: “Alzheimer’s Society is our chosen charity of the year for a second successive year. This was a fun way to engage children and raise awareness of the charity and its work. Alexis did a great job with her design and is a worthy winner.”
Scrivens chose to support Alzheimer’s Society because of the growing evidence of a link between uncorrected hearing loss and dementia, including Alzheimer’s.
Scrivens Opticians & Hearing Care is a family run business which was established in 1938. It has 177 stores in England and Wales, with 1,000 employees. For more information, visit www.scrivensopticians.com
