Poole’s sports people were celebrated at an annual awards ceremony held this year at the new Magna Academy School in Poole, on Wednesday 24th September.
The Awards, organised by Poole Sports Council in partnership with Borough of Poole’s Culture and Community Learning, mark the sporting achievements of individuals or teams, and recognise dedication or long service to a club or sport.
Richard Yates, Chairman of Poole Sports Council, said: “We call upon local sports clubs, schools and other sports partners to identify athletes who have achieved something special. Once again we were not let down with 23 individual, 3 school teams and 2 club nominations”.
This year’s event saw presentations for a wide variety of sports, including swimming, cycle speedway, sailing, wheelchair rugby and netball.
Cllr Peter Adams, Mayor of Poole, who presented Certificates of Commendation, said: “It is wonderful to see so many keen sports people rewarded for their hard work and dedication in a wide variety of sports. We hope it will encourage them to continue their tremendous success in future.”
For the second year, the awards were sponsored by the Everyone Active Leisure Centres in Poole, with Sean Gabriel, Centre Manager at Rossmore, presenting the Everyone Active Sports Trophies to Macie Schmidt and Leo McCrea who have enjoyed significant success this year.
The night ended with the presentation of the Freddie Rowe Sports Cup, to Mark Pauley, to recognise his achievement, success and services to Poole Athletics Club, of which he has been a member since 1984.
Nominations for next year’s Sports Awards will be invited in April 2015. For further information, please contact Lynda Adby at Borough of Poole on 01202 261318.
