The Barclays Premier League trophy became the key prop in a fundraising initiative when it took centre stage last week at a Digital Innovation evening hosted by Barclays at AFC Bournemouth.
The trophy, currently held by Chelsea, was closely guarded by two security men and had been on display at Barclays House in Poole earlier in the day, before being transferred to AFC Bournemouth’s stadium for the evening event.
The bank collaborated with local charity, Lewis-Manning, to use this opportunity to raise money for staff member Jenny Estherby, who is abseiling 100 metres down Portsmouth’s Spinnaker Tower on 16 August in aid of the hospice in Poole, which provides free care and support for people with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses.
The charity organised a photographer to take photos of staff and guests with the trophy, in return for a donation towards Jenny’s abseil, raising £200 during the day.
Paul Tucker, Communications Officer, said, “We must say a big thank you to Barclays for not only inviting us along to the event, which was itself a privilege, but also for offering us the chance to help Jenny raise money for her abseil in aid of the hospice.
It was amazing for everyone to get up close to the trophy, although there was a strict ‘no touching’ policy, and we hope that it will return to AFC Bournemouth next May after their first season in the Premier League!”
Barclays will be hosting the next Lewis-Manning ‘100,000 Club’ event for local businesses to network and fundraise at Barclays House on 14 September. Any businesses interested in getting involved should contact Maria Tidy on 01202 708470 or maria@lewis-manning.co.uk
