A sixth former from The Arnewood School, New Milton has won a national animation competition with his short film called ‘priorities.’
Year 12 CGI student Michael Paler wowed judges of the Animation 15 UK Schools Computer Animation Competition with his compelling feature on how modern-day children can be distracted by gaming.
The one-minute film begins like a computer game with impressive helicopter chases and gun fire.
But it ends with a student glued to his computer, earphones on, with an empty exercise book where his homework should be.
Michael’s was not the only Arnewood success in the competition, fellow Year 12 CGI student Sam Fry was also highly commend for his entry called ‘fabricated’.
Head of school, Nigel Pressnell, said: “We are so proud of Michael and Sam’s achievements in this national competition.
“Both students demonstrated a fantastic flair for art and film combined with impressive knowledge of CGI techniques.
“Remember their names – they could be off to Hollywood!”
The annual UK Schools Computer Animation Competition is about enthusing school children about Computer Science, and to use computers creatively.
It is open to all students aged 7-19 at UK schools and colleges.
Entrants create an original key-frame computer animation, up to one minute in length, using eligible software including: Alice, Flash, Scratch, Blender, Autodesk 3D Studio Max, Autodesk Maya, and Serif DrawPlus.
Michael won the individual top prize of £300 in the KS5 category (Years 12 and 13).
