Proclamation to King Charles III made in Wimborne
Hundreds of people gathered in Wimborne to hear the proclamation of the accession of King Charles III to the throne.
A crowd of several hundred gathered round the Minster Green and in the High Street in Wimborne on Sunday for the Proclamation of the King.
The rector of Wimborne Minster, the Rev Canon Andrew Rowland, advised all gathered about what was about to take place. Town crier and town mayor’s serjant Chris Brown then called for silence before the Mayor Cllr Carol Butter announced the town council statement, which was followed by the reading of the proclamation. It concluded with “God Save the King”, which was repeated by the official guests. All present then joined in saying “God Save The King.”
The town crier then called for three cheers for His Majesty The King before the Wimborne Militia fired a salute.
Floral tributes may be laid on the Minster Green and a Book of Condolence has been opened at the reception area of the town council office and will be available to sign until Tuesday 20 September.
On Sunday 18 September there will be a special commemoration civic service in the minster and all are invited to attend. It starts at 3pm and people are advised to arrive in plenty of time as attendance is expected to be high.
Please note that the Harvest Praise scheduled for Saturday 17 September in Wimborne Minster has been cancelled and anyone who has paid will be contacted and reimbursed.
