Over 150 students from Year 11 at Bournemouth’s The Bishop of Winchester Academy had the opportunity to meet a variety of business people, from a wide range of sectors including finance, leisure, manufacturing and training to offer an insight of the wide variety of careers available in the area. Presentations included fitness training, hair and beauty, floristry, engineering, theatre production, photography, insurance, care, football coaching, life skills, outdoor adventure and the students had the first opportunity to drive a car.
Fifteen companies were represented at the Employers Showcase arranged by the Enterprise and Skills Company. Director Ben Knowles explained that the employers were there to answer any general or specific questions a student had regarding a potential career.
Caroline Kurtulan, the Bishop of Winchester’s head of 6th Form and co-ordinator of enterprise and innovation said, “This event, combined with our Careers Fair where our main hall was filled with an additional 25 business people helps to increase the knowledge of occupations available and what qualifications and experience is required so they can take the next step to a great future.”
Next year many of the Year 11 students will have the choice of staying and becoming part of the Academy’s first 6th Formers now the extensive £14.5 million facilities are open.
