Staff at Rossmore Library in Poole were kept busy this week when Manorside Academy’s entire year three signed up as members.
The excited children walked from their school in Evering Avenue to the library in Herbert Avenue with their teachers and teaching assistants.
Library assistant Toni Giles then gave them a tour of the impressive building before issuing the pupils with their very own Gruffalo-themed library card and book bag.
Mrs Giles said: “It’s been wonderful having the Manorside children here. Many of them already have their favourite authors and read very well.
“They were pleased to learn we have computers for use on their homework and even a secret tunnel between one of the book cases. As well as borrowing their first books with the new library cards, they have promised to come in regularly with their parents and also take part in our Christmas Reading Challenge.”
Manorside pupil Shane Cooper, said: “I love books, especially Roald Dahl books and today I’m taking out George’s Marvellous Medicine.”
Megan Duffin used her new library card to borrow a book called The Egyptian Cat Mystery.
She said: “This library is really cool. The children’s library is separate and even has its own computers. It’s difficult to decide which books to borrow because there are so many to choose from.”
Sarah Rempel, Associate Principal of Manorside Academy said: “Reading is something we are passionate about at Manorside and we strive to help all our pupils become confident and enthusiastic readers.
“Our year three pupils came back from the library buzzing with excitement about what they had seen and learned.
“We will be making a return visit very soon.”
Manorside Academy, formerly Manorside Primary School, joined the Ambitions Academies Trust (AAT) in April 2015.
AAT has a track record in transforming underperforming schools, and already runs Tregonwell Academy and Queen’s Park Academy in Bournemouth, which have both been rated as ‘Outstanding’ by government inspectors.
