Young ‘philanthropists’ of Queen’s Park Academy in Bournemouth have raised almost £2,000 by staging a 1km race around their playground.
Inspired by the annual Race for Life event organised by Cancer Research UK, pupils ran, jogged or walked the distance.
The event has already raised over £1800 for Cancer Research UK, with the total expected to reach £2000.
Teacher Abi Harman said, “All the year groups have shown remarkable commitment to charity this year.
“At Christmas the children raised over £300 for Text Santa by wearing their festive jumpers.
“They followed this up in March by raising over £600 for Sport Relief with a day of sports competitions.
“The Race for Life was the icing on the cake.”
She continued: “The event was organised by the school council and was a fabulous day for everyone.
“Most of the school took part, collecting sponsorship before running, jogging or walking the 1km route around the playground, for which they all received a medal.
“Earlier in the day the children also held a bake sale to raise money and they made a donation to wear their own clothes for the day.
“We had many parents come along to watch the Race for Life and thanks to everyone’s support we are finishing the term on a real fundraising high.”
