Railway Weekend at Wimborne Model Town
Wimborne Model Town is hosting a Railway Weekend running from 30 April to 2 May featuring all manner of train attractions.
Model railways of all shapes and sizes are converging on Wimborne Model Town for the charity visitor attraction’s annual Railway Weekend taking place between 30 April and 2 May.
A ride on garden railway, providing visitors with a very different view of the vintage model buildings will be running with the support of Wimborne & District Society of Model Engineers and hauled by Toby the Tram Engine.
Making its public debut is the compact T gauge layout, Keren Cove, having been featured in the Railway Modeller magazine. Built and exhibited by Model Town volunteer Becky Stares, the 3mm scale diorama with a distinctly Purbeck feel, has town and seascapes, rolling countryside and a tiny 1/450 scale train which progresses through cuttings, across miniature bridges and a level crossing to reach its destination.
Model Town railway volunteers will be operating the developing Tramway system and organising extensive running on the attraction’s expanding 00 gauge layout including trains running underground and hot air balloon flights above the diorama.
Manager Nick Clark said: “We are very pleased to have the Railway Weekend back on the Model Town timetable. It’s a great showcase for our volunteers’ hard work and enthusiasm”.
Standard admission charges apply and booking is not required.
