RBCH shortlisted for Trust of the Year award
The Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (RBCH) has been shortlisted for the Trust of the Year category of the 2018 Health Service Journal (HSJ) Awards.
The Trust has been nominated following a five-year programme of improvement and culture change. In 2013 the hospitals faced a critical Care Quality Commission (CQC) report, among other challenges.
Following the successful implementation of the five-year improvement programme, the Trust is now in the top 25% of English trusts for Friends and Family Test results.
The trust reports that patients are seeing significant improvements following the programme, including: faster access to cancer treatment, Emergency Department waits consistently among the best in England, improved stroke performance, sustained improvements in the treatment of sepsis and mortality rates below expected levels.
It’s not just patients who have benefitted from improved performance; the Trust received the best staff survey results in the NHS in 2017 and received an outstanding CQC rating for being well led in 2018. In 2017 RBCH received the HSJ award for staff engagement.
Deb Matthews, Director of improvement and organisational development at RBCH, said, “We’re so proud to be in the running for the Trust of the Year award. We’re continuing to press on with our improvement journey, which is having a real impact on our patients and staff.
“Getting this far towards another trust-wide HSJ award shows the genuine commitment of our staff. We’re so proud of how far we’ve come – in the last 12 months we’ve had an amazing set of staff survey results, an overall rating of good by the CQC and now we’re finalists for Trust of the Year. 2018 – the 70th anniversary of the NHS – is proving to be a very special year for us.”
The HSJ Awards is the world’s largest healthcare awards programme, which culminates in a ceremony in London in November.
Ahead of the awards ceremony on 21November at the Intercontinental 02 in London, representatives from the Trust will present the improvement journey to a panel of health professions, who will decide on the award winners.
