Ready, set, quack! Wimborne Duck Race this weekend
Wimborne Minster’s annual charity duck race will mark its 25th year this Saturday.
Get ready for the feathered Formula One as Wimborne Minster’s annual duck race takes place this Saturday.
Hundreds of rubber ducks will swim along the River Allen, with prizes up for grabs for the sponsors of the top-placed ducks.
The ducks will be launched into the river at the bottom of Mill Lane beside Riverside Mews Café. They then follow the course of the river past Willow Walk to the finish line beside the garden at the back of the Rising Sun in East Street.
This year marks the 25th annual duck race. Sponsored by Puddle Ducks Dorset and organised by Wimborne in Bloom, proceeds from the event will go towards the upkeep of the flowers and planters around the town.
Tickets to sponsor a duck cost £1 each, and will be sold outside the Co-Op today and on Friday 22 and again on race day itself Saturday 23 August. Tickets will also be on sale outside Waitrose on Friday 21 August.
The winner of the first duck to reach the finish line will receive £50, second place receives £25, £10 for third place, and fourth, fifth and sixth receive £5 each.
The race will commence at 4pm on Saturday 23 August.
